Northrop Grumman Corp.

I was lucky enough to intern with Northrop Grumman during the 2021 Summer. Unfortunately due to the nature of my work, I can't say much, but I was responsible for developing some really useful tools for the company. One of my main goals for my internship was to develop something that can be useful to the company even after I'm gone. Happy to say I think I did just that.

Challenges Faced

The biggest challenge I faced when I came to the company wasn't the work, but adjusting to "corporate" life. I worked previous jobs to support myself through college so I had a "retail" mindset which is very fast paced, and someone is always watching over you. Transitioning to be my own boss, log my own hours, ask my own questions, those were all things I didn't learn in retail. Luckily after about two weeks I was able to acclimate just fine.

lessons & skills learned

  • AGI's Systems Tool Kit (STK) - Certified

  • MATLAB GUI Development

  • Network Communication Analysis

  • Network Requirements

  • Analysis Automation

Using Systems Tool Kit I was able to model a lot of really complex and dynamic satellite systems. I used these models to determine some important parameters that would drive the design of how the network was built. On my free time, I was able to take the knowledge that I gained in STK and become certified in the software which was a fun little side project.
